The vehicle door has an outer door skin (2), acting as part of the bodywork, a carrier (11) for supporting the function elements (5',12) for the door, contained in the space between the outer door skin and an inner cladding (4), with the window panel (3) received within the space between the rear side of the carrier and the outer door skin. The carrier, the function elements, the inner cladding, the window panel and its guides form a modular unit with side impact protection, sealed against the outer door skin to prevent ingress of moisture.
