The method involves detecting an actual vehicle speed and measuring the speed and position of an object ahead using radar sensing. Targets at the edge of a road are separated into discrete angle regions by comparing the target amplitudes with thresholds. In each angle region order filtering is conducted to determine the current distance of the road edge from the vehicle, which are then used for adaptive prediction of the type of curve with a classifier and as supporting points for curve regression.
