The ventilation system is for a saloon car. It includes a collector box (4) for stale air under the rear parcel shelf (5). There may be air-holes (6) in the back of the shelf giving access to air-holes (4a) in the top of the stale air box. The box may be surrounded by a sound-damping coating (9) and this coating also extends over a pipe (2) extending toward the rear of the car. There is a ventilation fan (7) at the rear end of the pipe and a U-bend with a forward-facing mouth (3).
