A first winding station (1) of a textile machine producing crossover reels has apparatus to capture the thread end of a spinning cop to be rewound, there being a device for loosening the cop thread end and transferring it to a gripping tube which can have air under suction applied as part of a splicing device. A thread capture and transfer apparatus (14) at an unwinding position (I) handles the thread end (57) from a take-off cop (2') to form an under-thread (40) and thread it into an inspection device (18) located in the thread path. This procedure can be repeated without problem as needed. Also claimed is a second winding station where, in the region of the unwinding position (I), a thread capture device (15) can be connected via a swivelling tube (16) to a suction cup (17) which has a sideways facing open connection on which the gripping tube (13) can dock.
