The invention is directed to a benzoquinolizine derivative of the following formula Ä1Ü, its pharmaceutically acceptable salt, and a pharmaceutical composition comprising the said compound, <CHEM> wherein R<1> represents hydroxy or alkoxy; R<2> represents hydrogen, hydroxy or alkoxy; R<3> represents alkyl; the said alkyl is optionally substituted by hydroxy, alkoxy, amino, monoalkylamino, or dialkylamino; R<4> represents alkyl (the said alkyl is optionally substituted by hydroxy or alkoxy), aryl (the said aryl is optionally substituted by alkyl, halogen, hydroxy, alkoxy, amino, monoalkylamino, or dialkylamino), monoalkylamino, or dialkylamino. The compound of the invention has gastrointestinal motility modulating activity and is effective in the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome. |
