PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving method for an electric field luminous element having a long luminous life, by restraining the polarization of an EL(electro- luminescence) layer consisting of an organic compound. SOLUTION: An EL layer 7 is interposed between anode and cathode electrodes 3 and 6, and is constituted of a TPD(triphenyldiamine derivative) coat 4 and an ALq3 coat (trisaluminium complex coat) 5 laminated. At first, before operating an electric field luminous element 1, voltage in a direction reverse to that of a luminous electric field, is applied by a voltage applying means 9. Consequently in emitting light, the orientation polarization of a functional group in an organic compound constituting the EL layer 7, or the ion polarization of an ionic impurity can be restrained previously. Resultantly, the deterioration of the luminous characteristic of the EL layer can be restrained, to prolong the luminous life of the electric field luminous element. |
