摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve brightness and to obtain a liquid crystal element adequate for portable type information display or reloadable recording by forming a liquid crystal layer in which at least any one among the arrangement states of liquid crystal molecules have twists exclusive the arrangement state perpendicular to substrates. SOLUTION: TFT elements 30 are formed on the substrate 21 and an insulating layer 19 having through-holes is formed. A metallic reflection layer 18 consisting of aluminum, etc., is formed by vapor deposition, etc., thereon to simultaneously form the conductive coupling parts with the TFT element 20 in the through-holes. An oriented layer 17 for an optical film is then formed and an optical film material having a mesogen group, such as biphenyl, is applied thereon and is subjected to exposing and curing via a photomask, by which the optical film 16 is formed. An oriented film is applied thereon and is subjected to an orientation treatment, by which the one liquid crystal element substrate is formed. This substrate is stuck to another orientation treated substrate which may have electrodes. A guest-host liquid crystal compsn. is injected therebetween, by which the element is constituted.
