PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the surface acoustic wave resonator in which an excellent resonator characteristic is obtained and miniaturization is realized. SOLUTION: In this resonator 9, parallel resonators 14 and/or series resonators 13 each consisting of an interdigital electrode and a couple of reflector electrodes with the interdigital electrode inbetween are arranged on one major side of a piezoelectric substrate 10. Number M of the reflection electrodes satisfies a condition of following equation represented by the Gauss' symbol and the film thickness H is selected to be 3500-5500Å. M>=[3.6×(H/λ)<-1> +1.5], whereλis a wavelength of a surface acoustic wave (in the unit ofÅ).
