PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an agent which can make paper water-proof and prevent paper from ink-staining by polymerizing the monomers constituting polymerizable monomers containing a quaternary nitrogen atom in the presence of a polymerization initiator bearing an azo group. SOLUTION: A polymerizable compound of formula I (R<1> and R<2> are each alkyl; X is a halogen) such as dialkyldiallylammonium halide and, preferably, a (meth)acrylic amide are polymerized in an aqueous medium using a polymerization initiator having one or more azo groups represented by formula II, for example, 2,2'-azobis(2-amdinopropane) to give the objective water-proofing agent. A paper base material is coated with the coating solution containing the agent to give the objective recording paper. |
