The drive has at least an IC engine, (1) electrical machine (2), energy storage device (3,4) and a direct converter (5). It has a power exchange connection at least between the electrical machine and at least one vehicle drive axle (10), between the IC engine and the electrical machine, and between the electrical machine and the one or more energy storage devices via an a.c. or three-phase on board network (11)and via the direct converter. The drive can contain an electrical energy storage device and a mechanical energy storage device, esp. a chargeable and dischargeable battery and a mechanical flywheel, respectively, and a power exchange connection between the electrical and mechanical energy storage devices via the on-board network.
