Polyester polyols (I) with hydroxy values of 75-300, acid values of 5-30 and molar masses of 600-15000 comprise the following monomers: (A) 5-50 mol.% neopentyl glycol; (B) 5-45 mol.% trimethylol propane; (C) 20-51.5 mol.% hexahydrophthalic acid (anhydride); (D) 0.5-32 mol.% phthalic acid (anhydride); (E) 0-18 mol.% other alkane diols chosen from butane-1,2-, -1,3- and -1,4-diol, pentane-1,5-diol, hexane-1,6-diol, cyclohexane-1,4-dimethanol, hydroxypivalic acid neopentyl ester, cyclohexane diol, trimethylpentane diol, ethylbutylpropane diol, mono-, di- or triethylene glycol, propane-1,2-diol or dipropylene glycol, or a mixture of these; (F) 0-18 mol.% other (hydroxy)dicarboxylic acids and/or their anhydrides, chosen from (5-hydroxy)isophthalic acid, terephthalic acid, halogen carboxylic acids (e.g. tetrachloro- or tetrabromophthalic acid), (endomethylene)tetrahydrophthalic acid, 1,2- or 1,4-cyclohexane dicarboxylic acid, 4-methylhexahydrophthalic acid, tricyclodecane dicarboxylic acid, endoethylene hexahydrophthalic acid, camphoric acid (1,2,2-trimethylcyclopentane-1,3-dicarboxylic acid), adipic acid, succinic acid, azelaic acid, sebacic acid or glutaric acid, or a mixture of these; (G) 0-16 mol.% (hydroxy)monocarboxylic acids chosen from (p-tert.-butyl)benzoic acid, lauric acid, isononanoic acid, 2,2-dimethylpropionic acid, 2-ethylhexanoic acid, hydroxypivalic acid, 2-, 3- or 4-hydroxybenzoic acid, 2- or 3-hydroxy-4-methylbenzoic acid or 2-hydroxy-2-phenylpropionic acid, or a mixture of these; and (H) 0-14 mol.% 4-18C (cyclo)aliphatic monoalcohols, with the provision that the sum of (A)-(D) and optionally (E)-(H) is 100 mol.%.
