PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently obtain L-glutamic acid useful in foods, medicines, etc., by culturing a bacterium belonging to the genus Escherichia, having resistance to aspartic acid metabolism antagonist, capable of producing L-glutamic acid in a medium and collecting the product in the culture solution. SOLUTION: A new bacterium [e.g. Escherichia coli AJ 13,199 (FERM P-15,573), etc.] belonging to the genus Escherichia, having resistance to a aspartic acid metabolism antagonist such as aspartic acid β-hydroxamate, capable of producing L-glutamic acid is cultured in a liquid medium. L-Glutamic acid is formed and accumulated in the culture solution and collected to give the objective L-glutamic acid important in foods, medicines, etc., by fermentation in improved productivity inexpensively and efficiently. |
