PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce capacity drop in a low temperature region, obtain high electrode capacity over a wide temperature range, and lengthen the life by using a hydrogen storage alloy having a composition represented by the prescribed general formula. SOLUTION: An intermetallic compound based on a rare earth element and nickel are used as the base of an alloy component, and Ti, Zr, Hf and the like are added to the base to adjust the composition of the alloy in the prescribed range represented by the general formula of Ra Mb M'c Ad Ni100-a-b-c-d (wherein R is at least one element selected from Y, La, Ce, Sm, Nd, and Pr, M is at least one element selected from Ti, Zr, and Hf, M' is at least one element selected from Co, Fe, Cr, Mn, and Cu, A is at least one element selected from Al, Ga, Si, Ge, Sn, V, Nb, Ta, Mo, and W, and a, b, c, d are 10<=a<=30, 5<=b<=20, 0<=c<=30, 0<=d<=10 in atomic percent). |
