PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air battery having high safety and reliability, from which large currents can be taken out, and which is equipped to prevent leakage of the electrolyte from an air hole. SOLUTION: This air battery has a positive electrode case 1 having an air hole 2 and the step 3 of an air reservoir, a positive electrode assembly consisting of diffusing paper 4, a water-repellent film 5, an air electrode 6, and a separator 7 and arranged on the inner bottom of the positive case, an negative container 9 accommodating a negative working material 8 and an electrolyte and placed at the top of the cathode assembly 9, and n insulating gasket 10 located between the positive case 1 and the regative container 9 to seal the battery. In this case, when the depth of the positive case step 3 is at least 0.15mm and the thickness of the diffusing paper 4 is 60 to 80% of the depth of the cathode case step 3, the air battery with excellent safety and high reliability can be provided which enables taking out a discharge capacity not less than twice that of a mercury battery during large current discharge as in the case of a standard capacity, and which completely prevents leakage of the electrolyte from the air hole. |
