The present invention discloses novel retinoids of general formula (See Formula), wherein x is oxo or an OR1 group in 4 or 5 position; R1 is hydrogen, alkyl or acyl; and R2 is hydrogen or alkyl; the broken lines are optional and a double 3,4 bond can only be present with the proviso that X is in the S position; as well as pharmaceutical acceptable salts of carboxylic acids of formula I. The componds of the invention are useful for therapy and prophylaxis of dermatologic diseases which are accompanied by epithelial injuries, for example, acne and psoriasis, as well as malignant and pre-malignant injuries, tumors and pre-cancerous changes in the mucous membrane of mouth, tongue, larynx, esophagus, bladder, cervix and colon. |
