<p>An active intravascular lung (10) includes a gas exchanger (14) for delivering oxygen to blood flowing across the gas exchanger (14) when positioned within the cavity (52, 54) and a pump (16) in proximity to the gas exchanger (14) for creating a differential blood pressure across the gas exchanger (14). When the gas exchanger (14) is positioned percutaneously in the blood flow cavity (52, 54), oxygen can be delivered to the blood independent of the operation of the patient's heart.</p> |
