The body (4) of the male element (2) of the joint is fixed to the associated transmission shaft (3) in an area (39) where, in an aligned position of the joint, it is axially displaced towards the end of the shaft with respect to the median plane (P) of the swivelling connecting means (5, 6) of the male and female elements (8). The body (4) defines a free internal space (104) open on the opposite side and in which the closing member (13) of the joint cavity is linked to the said shaft (3) or to the body (4) of the male element. This invention is useful for quadripod type universal joints.
