The intermediate heat exchangers (17) are placed around the cylindrical internal hot tank (15) of the sodium cooled nuclear reactor. Each exchanger is provided with a horizontal channel (24) containing a movable connecting sleeve (25), that can slide horizontally between a retracted position inside the body of the heat exchanger (17) and an extended position where the sleeve (25) penetrates into an orifice (20,22,23) in the wall of the internal tank (15). When the sleeve is retracted, the heat exchanger can be passed through the upper plate of the reactor.
