MODULAR TRASH CHUTE AND ROOM FOR MULTISTORY BUILDING

A waste chute (1) for a multistory building is made up of modules (64) stacked one upon the other. Each module (64) has a vertical section of waste chute (36) enclosed within a fire safe room (65). The chute sections (36) are arranged to nest together to form a continuous chute when the modules (64) are positioned on one another. Each room (63) is provided with a door (70) providing access to the room (63). The chute section (36) is provided with a self closing access door (2). An alternative embodiment of the invention provides a module (72) for more than one story. The multistory module (72) has a room (63) for each story. By integrating the chute section (36) with the chute room (63) in a prefabricated module (64), the construction of a building is facilitated. The costs and complications of having multiple trades working on the chute system (1) are avoided. The invention may be practiced with a system for collecting different types of trash in different receptacles beneath the chute (1). Prewired controls (47) in the module (64) at each chute access door (2) select the receptacle beneath the chute (1).
