摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical add/drop multiplexer and its method employing a high speed polarized wave scrambler manufactured economically or with the existing technology by decreasing deterioration in a transmission characteristic due to beat noises generated throughtbe interference of a leakage component of fiber grating. SOLUTION: A laser beam signal from a CW laser 1 is modulated by a LN modulator 3 and the modulated data are made incident on a high speed polarized wave scrambler (SCR) 5. The high speed polarized wave scrambler 5 scrambles the polarized wave state of a signal light from the modulator 3 at a high speed to reduce the probability where the polarized wave state between a signal light and an interference light is worst. The signal light scrambled at a high speed is given to an optical ADM element 11, which drops a signal light of a prescribed wavelength among input signal light beams from a drop port 71c and outputs the signal light of the other wavelength from an output port 75b together with an add light added from an add port 75c.
