To provide a method to create a lookup table which is available for a color coordinates conversion or a color compensation, using an error back propagation of neural network in case that input and output systems have a different color band each other. The lookup table formation method consists of a step that rearranges input color space to some latticed points, a step that gets output color space data by inputting the data of the latticed points to the output system, a step that divides output color space into some latticed points uniformly and determines the input color space data corresponding to each latticed point, and a step that stores the determined input color space data as color compensation data to lookup table. Thereby, it is applicable for a lookup table formation for color compensation in nonlinear color processing device, such as color scanner, facsimile, printer, etc., and also for mutual conversion in two different characteristic color coordinates.
