Antibiotic/anti-inflammatory composition for otic application. It comprises 0.1-0.4 g of ciprofloxacin, 0.2-1.5 g of hydrocortisone, 0.3-0.8 g of 20% lactic acid, 0.3-0.6 g of 1M hydrochloric acid, 1-3 g of glucose, 1-3 g of a suspending agent (preferably polyvinylpyrrolidone), 30-60 g of a co-solvent (preferably propylene glycol or polyethylene glycol), 1-3 g of polyoxyethylenated polysorbate, and 0.01-0.08 g of a preservative chosen from methyl p-hydroxybenzoate, ethyl p-hydroxybenzoate and propyl p-hydroxybenzoate. It is useful for the topical treatment of otitis, especially of otitis media accompanied by a general inflammatory process. It has the advantage that it can be applied to children, and that in cases of perforation of the eardrum it does not involve the risk of ototoxicity associated with other combinations of antibiotics and anti-inflammatory agents which are used topically.
