PURPOSE:To produce piezoelectric ceramics, excellent in piezoelectric characteristics and made of lead zirconate titanate by heat-treating fine particulate crystalline zirconium titanate and lead oxide, forming powder of the resultant lead zirconate titanate and calcining the formed compact at a specific low temperature. CONSTITUTION:One mol powdery crystal of zirconium titanate, expressed by the general formula ZrxTi1-xO2 (x is 0.3-0.7) and having <=0.3mum particle diameter is mixed with 1mol lead oxide and <=0.003mol Nl2O5 and the resultant mixture is pulverized together with acetone. The pulverization mixture is then filtered, then placed in a crucible made of alumina, calcined at <=800 deg.C temperature, subsequently repulverized with acetone, then filtered and dried to produce powder of lead zirconate titanate. The obtained powder is granulated, press formed in a metallic mold and heat-treated at <=1,000 deg.C temperature in the air. Thereby, piezoelectric ceramics composed of the calcined lead zirconate titanate compact excellent in mechanical strength are obtained. |
