PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correct the error included in the detected azimuth in the detection of the signal arriving azimuth in an active sonar. SOLUTION: This detector is provided with a split-beam correlation part 14 comprising a complex conjugate part 1 and a multiplying part 2, a phase detecting part 3 obtaining the phase difference from the complex signal after split-beam correlation, a first-azimuth detecting part 4 using a distance dθ1 between beams, at which the error included in the detected azimuth when the signal arriving azimuth isθ1 becomes zero, a first-azimuth detecting part 5 using dθ2 when the signal arriving azimuth isθ2 and an azimuth-difference detecting part 6 obtaining the difference of the detected azimuths. Furthermore, the detector is provided with an azimuth difference table 8 in which the distances dθ1 and dθ2 between the beams are used and the azimuth computation is performed for the arbitrary arriving azimuth signal beforehand, and a plurality of the registered values where the azimuth difference at this time at the optimum distance between the beams corresponding to the signal arriving azimuth form one pair are registered, a beam-distance selecting part 7 collating the azimuth difference with the registered value and selecting the optimum distance between the beams from the closest registered value (azimuth difference) and a second azimuth detecting part 9 detecting the azimuth again by the selected optimum distance between the beams.
