The track is lowered gradually from ground level or above it, typically by excavation. This work is so carried out that no permanent distortion of the track takes place, being interrupted if desired to allow traffic to pass through. Dykes can be formed at each side of the track, these being of inverted-V section and with a watertight joint between them at the bottom. |
