Automatic charge and discharge unit for magnet plates, for data storage

The system to give an automatic charging and discharging of magnetic plates, in a computer system, has a charge/discharge unit which is moved in the discharge setting at right angles to the rotary axis of the magnet plate into the space between the magnet head suspension and a surface of the magnet plate. This lifts at least one magnet head from the magnet plate. On charging, the unit is withdrawn from the space, so that at least one magnet head is lowered to the magnet plate. The unit is of fine steel, coated with a lubricant and preferably a perfluoropolymer. Also claimed is the method used.
