The invention relates to an apparatus for collection and selection of soil samples and an employment of said apparatus. The apparatus includes a first element in the shape of a pipe (1) and a second element in the shape of a piston (2) which is movable relative to the pipe and which runs on the inside of the pipe. When collecting soil samples (7) the pipe is displaced into the ground (4). When selecting the soil samples accumulated in the pipe, the piston is displaced downwards in the pipe. Collection and selection take place quickly, coincident with the selection causing that the entire soil sample is selected.
