PHENOL DERIVATIVE AND ITS SYNTHETIC INTERMEDIATE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound having active-oxygen scavenging action and antioxidation action and effective for preventing the cell injury in arteriosclerosis, myocardial infarction and ischemia/reperfusion and suppressing arrhythmia, etc. SOLUTION: This compound is expressed by formula I (R<1> and R<3> are each a lower alkyl or a lower alkoxy; R<2> is H, a lower alkyl or a lower alkoxy; ring A is monocyclic heterocyclic group containing sulfur, nitrogen or oxygen) or its salt, e.g. 7-t-butyl-8-hydroxy-5-methoxy-2-oxo-3-(3-pyridylmethyl)-1,2,3,4- tetrahydroquinazoline hydrochloride. The compound of formula I can be produced by removing protective group of a compound of formula II (R<0> is an OH-protecting group). The compound of formula I has excellent lipid peroxidation suppressing action, macrophage foaming suppressing action, oxidized LDL formation suppressing action, ACAT inhibiting action, mouse antioxidation action, action to suppress arrhythmia induced by reperfusion.
