The device has a tension stirrup which is pivotable about an axis of one of two retention stirrups fixed to the plate of the binding. An arm of the tension stirrup is provided as holder part for fixing a shoe in the binding, whilst the other arm serves as operating lever. In the tension stirrup (6) a step spur (11) is integrated, which is pivotable around a further axis (10), and which extends over the holder part (8) of the tension stirrup. The retention stirrup (2,3) on insertion of the shoe (5) in the binding (1) is held by an end stop (21) in a predetermined position.
