PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain pattern recognition and vector quantization with high accuracy by generating a proper category vector which is not affected by the background of a prescribed picture pattern. SOLUTION: An area segmenting device 102 segments a partial picture from a two-dimensional digital picture. A buffer for storing partial vectors 103 holds a set of a segmented two-dimensional partial picture and code word vector in a proper period. In this case, the code word vector shows the number of a class which a corresponding partial vector belongs to. Each arithmetic element 105 corresponds one to one to a class for classifying partial vectors and generates a representative vector (coefficient vectorω<k> ) and an attribute vectorν<k> expressing one category. A buffer for storing the number of inputting times 104 holds the number of the times when the contents of the buffer 103 are sent to the arithmetic element 105. Then the definition range is fixed based on reliability (each element value of the attribute vectorν<k> ) corresponding to the pixel element of the generated partial picture to prevent pattern mismatching. |
