PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a skin external agent, capable of suppressing and improving the inflammation and the roughness of the skin caused by ultraviolet rays and having excellent feeling in use. SOLUTION: This skin external agent is obtained by compounding one or more kinds selected from an ultraviolet absorbent and an ultraviolet dispersant with an extract of Melissa officinalis of a plant belonging to the family Labiatae. The content of the extract of Melissa officinalis is 0.001-5wt.%, and that of an ultraviolet dispersant or an ultraviolet absorbent is 1-40wt.% when it is powder and 0.01-20wt.% when it is another form of ultraviolet absorbent. The extract of Melissa officinalis has an inhibiting effect on hyaluronidase activity and can exhibit synergistic effect on the improvement of skin symptom, antiinflammation, wound curing, the prevention of the skin from getting older, the improvement of rough skin, etc., by using the extract together with the ultraviolet absorbent and the ultraviolet dispersant. The extract of Melissa officinalis is obtained by extracting flowers, stems, leaves, roots or seeds of Melissa officinalis in a raw or a dried state with a solvent (e.g. ethanol), and purifying and fractionating the crude extract. |
