PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a cosmetic suppressing drying of the skin without inducing glittering, sticking and crumbling of makeup by blending a specific compound obtained from the extract of the seeds of Aesculus hippocastanum in a cosmetic obtained by mixing powder of more than the prescribed amount. SOLUTION: This cosmetic contains escinol expressed by the formula (R<1> is H or OH; R<2> is a pyranose residue) in a cosmetic containing >=2wt.% of powder. Preferably, a blending amount of escinol is 0.001-30wt.%, especially 0.1-20wt.% based on the total amount of the cosmetic. Escinol is a triterpenoid- based saponin obtained by alkali-decomposing escin in the extract of the seed of Aesculus hippocastanum and removing and acyl group. As the escinol, one having R<1> of OH and R<2> ofβ-D-glucopyranose, R<1> of OH and R<2> ofβ-D- xylopyranose and R<1> of H and R<2> ofβ-D-galactopyranose, etc., are exemplified. The formulation of the cosmetic is powder, pressed matter mainly comprising powder, a stick-like or a plate-like one mainly composed of powder-oil, etc. Further, the cosmetic is also used for rouge or foundation, etc.
