<p>An alumina sol wherein the inclusion of excess water within a crystal lattice of boehmite is so small that it can be synthesized in a very high concentration, which has an excellent mechanical strength and properties suitable particularly as an alumina carrier and a hydrogenation catalyst, can be applied to the step of molding without any special concentration, thus significantly improving the productivity improved, and is excellent in energy saving because the step of concentration is not required. The alumina sol comprises a fibrous boehmite having the molecular formula Al2O3.1.05-1.30 H2O with the weight average diameter and the weight average length being respectively in the range of 3 to 50 nm and in the range of 30 to 3000 nm, and has an alumina concentration of 15 to 60 % by weight.</p> |
