The distributor has a base (2) housing the coin handling mechanism and the mechanism to deliver the selected item to an access outlet. The distributed items are stored in a vertical cylindrical reservoir (3) which is fitted to the base. The reservoir can be divided vertically to provide storage for different items. The top of the base unit has an annular support for the cylindrical reservoir. The annular support can be separated from the base. An elastic indexing mechanism (34,33,37,38) ensures that the cylindrical reservoir adopts fixed angular positions when it is rotated relative to the base to bring the selected item into position above the delivery mechanism.
