The invention relates to a read and/or write device for cards bearing data and specially a monitored 3-plane hybrid reader (Maresch reader) having multi-function properties which, for example, can read from and write into a magnetic tape (15) and a data chip (17) on the card (2), is capable of checking its own functional ability and in addition can insert the card (2). The reader has a base section (10) in which there is a movable slide (4) to accept the card (2). There is also a carriage (5) fitted to move on the slide (4), a read/write unit (6, 13) for the card (2) and a drive unit (7) permitting relative movement between the carriage (5) and the slide (4). |
