The invention relates to a process for utilization of milk-containing wastes of a milk processing plant. According to the process at least a part of the fat and proteins contained in the waste milk product are separated in a manner known per se from said product in order to produce a low-fat and low-protein whey fraction. According to the invention an acid solution containing nitric acid and an alkaline solution containing potassium hydroxide, or a mixture thereof, are added to the whey fraction. The solutions have been used for sterilizing the equipment of the milk processing plant. The whey fraction is evaporated to less than 1/2 of its original volume and nitrogen-, phosphor- or potassium-containing nutrients are added to the product thus obtained. The vapour of the evaporation is condensed to water and reused in the milk processing plants, whereas the evaporated solution is used as a watering fertilizer for garden and indoor plants.
