The method is carried out with a friction roller (14) driving a cross coil and a winding-on system, the frequency of double sides of which stands in constant ratio to the rpm of the friction roller. The driven friction roller (14) is alternately accelerated and braked in such a way, in at least one turns ratio range, causing at least one image, that slip is produced between the friction roller and the cross coil (11). The turns ratio (w) is changed over suddenly between the desired values (Wso, Wsu) above and below the turn ratio range causing the images. The accelerating and the braking of the friction roller, is carried out in at least one specified turn ratio region during a coiling operation.
