The process uses an Erbium -YAG laser as a means of photo vaporising the cornea of the eye in a surgical sight correction operation. The laser medium is impregnated with chromium and operates in a fundamental mode and has a Gaussian distribution characteristic. This produces a suitable cornea ablation profile appropriate for correction of a myopic condition.
