The aim is to improve the safety in traffic of a bicycle by means of a permanent lateral safety device, without affecting the spoke tension, true running or brake action of rim brakes. This is achieved by an arrangement in which the rim (1) is provided, radially inside and/or outside the flanks which act as a brake ring (2), with at least one other annular lateral surface (3) for mounting reflecting strips (4).
