PURPOSE:To prevent a lowering of characteristics even when the recording power at the time of recording is reduced and a protective layer is provided by imagewise irradiating a recording layer of a dye in a coarse associated state with laser beam to change the associated state of the dye of the recording layer so as to make denser than that before the irradiation with laser beam. CONSTITUTION:A data recording medium wherein a recording layer of a dye in a coarse associated state is provided on a substrate is imagewise irradiated with laser beam and the associated state of the dye of the recording layer is changed to a state denser than that before the irradiation with laser beam to record data. Further, the recording layer having the data recorded thereon is irradiated with laser beam to fade the dye present at a part having no data recorded thereon to fix the data. In a pref. mode, a dye monomer is a cyanine dye represented by formula (I) and the wavelength of laser beam is 650-900nm. |
