PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound having inhibitory activity against adhesion and metamorphosis of underwater harmful adherent organisms such as vertically- striped barnacle, useful as a controller. SOLUTION: This compound is shown by formula I (R<1> and R<2> are each OH, an alkoxy or R<1> and R<2> are bonded to form epoxy; R<3> and R<4> are each OH, acetoxy or R<3> and R<4> are bonded to form oxo) such as a compound of formula II (R<1> ' and R<2> ' are each OH or R<1> ' and R<2> ' are bonded to form epoxy). The compound of formula I is obtained by extracting an animal belonging to the order Alcyonacea of the group Alcyonacea with a water-miscible solvent such as methanol, concentrating the prepared extracted solution, partitioning the concentrated solution with water and an ether-based solvent such as diethyl ether, concentrating the prepared ether phase and purifying. The compound can be converted into another derivative by a routine procedure. The compound of the formula is processed into a coating material, solution, emulsion, capsule, etc., and used. The content of the compound is 0.1-50wt.% in the case of the coating material, is 0.1-100wt.% in the case of the solution and 0.1-80wt.% in the case of the emulsion. |
