A catheter needle tip protector safety mechanism which provides fail/safe protection to clinical personnel against the possibility of accidental punctures by used intravenous (IV) needles through the provision of automatic catheter needle tip protecting structure which becomes operative upon withdrawal of the needle from the body of a patient. Provided is a snap-together nose and guard arrangement for the safety catheter, which may be adapted to provide for a catheter hub releasing mechanism, and whereby the nose and guard arrangement of the catheter insertion device is constituted of an integral or unitarily molded construction, and may also incorporate an integral catheter hub release lever, thereby considerably reducing manufacturing costs in comparison with current structures of this type which are ordinarily assembled from a plurality of discrete components. <IMAGE> |
