PURPOSE:To determine the timing necessary for phosphoric acid supply accurately by deciding the lack of phosphoric acid basing on the variations of characteristic values accompanied with the operation of a cell. CONSTITUTION:During operation of a cell, variations in temperature rise value, voltage value and AC resistance value of the cell or variations of concentration value of oxygen or the like at the fuel electrode outlet are measured and compared with reference values. When one or more of the values exceed threshold values, phosphoric acid is judged to be short and phosphoric acid is replenished. Thereby phosphoric acid can be supplied at an adequate time to avoid the continual operation of the cell under the lack of phosphoric acid and to elongate the life time of the cell. |
