METHOD OF DETERMINING THE FIRING TIME FOR AN INTERNAL-COMBUSTION ENGINE WITH ADAPTIVE KNOCK CONTROL

In the method proposed, the occurrence of knocking is reduced by retarding the ignition. The current values of the firing retard are recorded in a characteristic diagram as a function of the operating parameters. The invention calls for a mean firing retard to be determined from the values recorded in the characteristic diagram and, from this mean value, both a corrected firing time and knock-control range limits. The method proposed enables the fuel quality and ambient conditions to be determined automatically by means of a learnt research octane number stage and used to reduce the complexity of the knock control.
