Brain activators and anti-demential drugs containing as the active ingredient(s) one or more saccharides selected from among low-molecular weight pachyman originating in hoelen, lichenan, isolichenan, dextrans, curdlan and pustulan, derivatives thereof and salts thereof. Use of these drugs makes it possible to inhibit or treat lowering of learning and memory functions caused by various factors.
