The method prepares plastic for coating, especially to form precision optics. The blank may have picked up water vapour at various times following manufacture. To remove it (14), the plastic is subjected to a predetermined microwave energy irradiation, immediately before the first coating. The energy suffices to heat the water dipoles. During irradiation, the air surrounding the plastic (11), which takes up the water vapour released, is sucked away. Also claimed is the device to carry out the procedure above.
