The invention which is the subject of this invention relates to a machining tool which comprises a blank formed to a shank and in which machining faces are formed to expose material of a PCD or PCBN element which is formed in a recess in the blank and fused to the blank using material from the transition group of elements during forming. The invention also relates to the blank itself and also to the method of forming the blank and the machining tool. The recess is defined by side walls, a base wall and end walls to define a mould in which the PCD or PCBN material is formed into an element to fuse with the blank. Thus no fabrication process is required to join the PCBN or PCD material and thus the problems of conventional processes which do require fabrication to join same is avoided.
