PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a hair-mother cell activator useful for preventing depilation and for growing the hair, containing, as active ingredient, a water extract from a specific kind of plant, and to obtain a hair growth stimulant composition formulated with the activator. SOLUTION: This hair-mother cell activator contains, as active ingredient, a water extract from scutellariae radix, a kind of plant belonging to Labiatae (e.g. a water crude extract from the plant, a purified fraction of the extract). The purified fraction is pref. a fraction <=13000 in a molecular weight cut off obtained by ultrafiltration of the above-mentioned crude extract, or a fraction 1000-3000 in molecular weight obtained by get filtration of the above fraction. The other objective hair growth stimulant composition contains the active ingredient at 0.001-10wt.% or so in terms of the water crude extract on a solid basis (0.001-10wt.% for the fraction <=13000 in molecular weight, 0.0001-1wt.% for the fraction 1000-3000 in molecular weight). This hair growth stimulant composition can be made into a formulation such as hair cream, hair lotion or hair tonic. |
