PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control the generation of sulfuric acid by catalitic noble metal during the purification of exhaust gas by a method in which complex oxide consisting of catalitic noble metal and alkaline earth metal is supported on a carrier. SOLUTION: Sulfur dioxide which is produced from sulfur components in fuel is contained in exhaust gas from a diesel engine. Therefore, in both open type SOF decomposition catalyst and a catalyst in which catalitic noble metal such as platinum is supported on DPF, sulfur dioxide in exhaust gas is oxidized by the high oxidation catalyst effect of catalitic noble metal, and the sulfur dioxide is combined with water in exhaust gas, producing sulfuric acid to cause problems. Accordingly, complex oxide consisting of catalitic noble metal and alkaline earth metal is supported on a carrier to make a catalyst for purifying exhaust gas. As the catalitic noble metal, platinum, rhodium, palladium, iridium, sliver, gold, etc., are named; alkaline earth metals are 2A group elements, and strontium and barium are used preferably. |
