Date Sep. 30, 1993 <IMAGE> (I) Processes for preparing 2-substituted benzaldehydes of general formula (I), wherein: R1 is CH2CH2-(L1)p-(CH2)q-(L2)r-CH2-(T)2-Z; L1 and L2 are independently CH2CH2, CH=CH or C 3BOND C; q is 0 to 8; p, r and s are independently 0 or 1; T is O, S, CH2, CH=CH, C 3BOND C; and Z is C1-4alkyl, ethynyl, trifluoromethyl, isopropenyl, furanyl, thienyl, cyclohexyl or phenyl optionally mono substituted with CF3, C1-4alkyl, C1-4alkoxy, methylthio, or trifluoromethylthio; and R2 and A are independently H, CF3, C1-4alkyl, F, Cl, Br or I; are useful for preparing pharmaceutically active compounds.
